Dr Ana Barbosa

Dr Ana Barbosa is a Dementia Care Consultant and Trainer at the Centre for Applied Dementia Studies, University of Bradford where she also teaches for the MSc Advanced Dementia Studies.

Ana completed her PhD in Gerontology and Geriatrics in 2015 at the University of Aveiro (Portugal). Her research interests are focused on care home staff, particularly on ways to improve their wellbeing and the care they provide to people affected by dementia. The impact that staff wellbeing have on care provision and residents’ quality of life is recognised but this is still an underexplored topic.

She has recently been awarded funding to test the acceptability of a psycho-educational programme for staff in UK care homes and she will be soon supervising a PhD on the topic. Ana is keen to consolidate and continue her work in this area.

She has also collaborated on multiple projects; previous and ongoing projects have been focused on family caregiving (e.g. psychosocial interventions for carers), and care home research (e.g. falls, visual and hearing loss in care homes).
